Hayle to St Ives

Circular Route
Route Difficulty: Easy/Moderate
Route Length: 24.14km
Average Duration: 2hrs
Hayle, once the centre of the copper mining and smelting industry, nestles at the mouth of the Hayle River. The estuary is a magnet for many species of migratory wildfowl and wading birds in spring and autumn, drawn to St Ives Bay with it's three miles of golden sands and sub-tropical climate. Dismount and use the footpath to the metalled road past the Knill Monument, on your approach to St Ives. Life centres around the harbour of this traditional fishing village, with quaint cobbled streets lined with fishermen's cottages. The quality of light and atmosphere encouraged artists to form a colony way back in the 1800's, nowadays St Ives has many galleries to visit and explore.
