Cornwall & Devon - for great holidays

Details of Padstow

Padstow, Cornwall

Built on a hillside overlooking the Camel Estuary, Padstow is a fine example of a Cornish-fishing port. The town is largely unspoilt, with a beautiful harbour fringed with many intact medieval buildings such as the 15th century Abbey House and 16th century Court House of Sir Walter Raleigh. The Tudor mansion of Prideaux Place is just outside of town in a commanding position. There are good shopping facilities, a cinema, cafes and restaurants, including the famous "Seafood Restaurant" run by Rick Stein, and many old and friendly public houses, most of them serving pub food and 'real ale'. The town is home to some fine craft and gift shops, artists' studios, book- shops, and many other local amenities. The town is home to the the centuries-old ‘Obby ‘Oss May Day dance which celebrates the arrival of spring. Fine beaches can be found at St George’s Well and Trevone Bay. The Camel Trail follows the former railway line and takes a pleasant route to Bodmin. Located in the town is the National Lobster Hatchery and nearby is Crealy Adventure Park.
