Cawsand village sits across the Tamar overlooking Plymouth Sound, tucked away with its neighbour Kingsand fringing the southern end of a three mile bay. They are east facing sand and shingle beaches sheltered by the Rame Head Peninsula. The beach is a series of moderately shelving sandy pockets between outcrops. At either end of the beaches the sand gives way to rocky foreshores backed by wooded slate cliffs. Bathing is considered safe at both beaches, except when there are south-easterly winds. For the more enthusiastic other activities include windsurfing, water skiing, sailing diving and fishing. The beaches and villages are a conservation area in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
