A popular family resort with three miles of wide sandy beach edged to one side by sand dunes, also popular with surfers and for sand yachting. The tide goes out a long way here, and at low water a sea water ‘swimming pool’ is left uncovered in a large rock outcrop in the middle of the beach, great fun for the kids and safe! The lifeguards use buggies or 4X4's to patrol and place their flags. The resort has a boating lake, folk museum, golf course, bowling green and mammoth sundial made from local granite on the cliff top above the beach. Once more buried in the sand, up in the dunes, is the ancient St. Piran's Oratory, where one of the earliest Irish Saints lived. It is believed to date back to the 6th century.
