The historic old town of Newton Abbot is a bustling commercial centre and market town. There has been a market in Newton Abbot since 1220 and there are various open, indoor and farmers markets.
The pedestrianised town centre offers an interesting blend of shops, with high street names and specialised family owned businesses. Around the town there are attractive gardens and parks, a Museum, Cinema, Leisure Centre, Indoor bowls and ten-pin bowling.
The famous Newton Abbot Racecourse has steeplechase horse racing throughout the year, and is also used as a venue for a range of other events. Other Newton Abbot attractions include the Tuckers Maltings Visitor Centre, The Prickly Ball Hedgehog Hospital and the National Trust property, Bradley Manor House.
With excellent access to the M5, the English Riviera and Dartmoor, Newton Abbot is a good central base.
