Until the construction of the Tamar road bridge at Saltash in 1962, the 16th century bridge at Gunnislake was one of the main routes of entry into Cornwall. The village clings to the steep valley sides and has a history of industrial and mining activity. In the 19th century the Tamar valley became the richest copper-mining centre in Europe. Scenic rail link to Plymouth along Tamar Valley line. Nearby you can visit the Tamar Valley Donkey Park.
