Cliffs of Love

Director - Dieter Kehler. Production 1999. Cast: Grit Kling, Johannes Brandrup, Ursula Gottwald, Rolf Hoppe, Volker Lechtenbrink.

The young nurse June has been happily married for years to the rich art collector Geoffrey Arland. Since a motorcycle accident, Geoffrey has been tied to his wheelchair and suffers greatly from not being able to offer his wife the required life.

One day, a helicopter makes an emergency landing by the Arlands' manor house. The pilot, Ben Hoadey, a publishing manager and artist from London, has a severe heart attack and manages to brings the helicopter to the ground with his last strength. June and her father are the first on the scene. Ben is taken to the nearby hospital together with his girlfriend Rebecca who has survived the emergency landing uninjured. Dr. Jerome, the physician treating him, makes it unmistakably clear to the young workaholic that he must alter his lifestyle completely. The next day, Ben meets his rescuer again and thanks her for her action.

For him, June is his guardian angel and he announces to her that - in keeping with a Chinese proverb - she will never be rid of him. This would also be a not uninteresting idea for June, if she were not married.

June undertakes a trip with her friend April to St. Michael. Her husband has urged her to make this change. In the meantime, Ben has put the doctor's advice into effect. Back in London, he packs his things and takes his leave of the surprised Rebecca. He wants to go to Brookleigh for a lengthier period - to find rest and relaxation - and, of course, also to see June. He takes a cottage quite near to the Arlands.

In a pub, Ben gets to know Geoffrey by chance. They get along well right away, because they both have a passion in common: playing chess. Ben has no idea that his new friend is the husband of the woman about whom he is thinking all the time.

Ben's inquiries have shown that June is to be found at St. Michael and travels after her. June and Ben spend three wonderful, romantic days by the sea, Rebecca senses that there must be another woman behind Ben's sudden change. When she finds out who it is, she concocts
a diabolical plan...
