Young Virginia spends most of her summer holidays with her aunt in Cornwall. As much as she loves the rough landscape and true people, her mother hates it. At a barbecue, Virginia meets local farmer, Eustace. They fall in love but her mother is not happy with the relationship. She uses a lot of tricks and intrigue to split them up. Virginia then marries the nobel Antony Keile, they move to Scotland and have two children. But the marriage is unhappy. When the husband dies in a car crash Virginia goes back to Cornwall. She meets Eustace but there a a lot of misunderstandings between them….
