Penzance and Mount’s Bay – lively resort on the south coast with history of pirates and smuggling. The most beautiful street is Chapel Street. Lovely views onto St Michael’s Mount. This tidal island is National Trust property and was used as monastery, fort and castle in previous years.
Penzance appears very often in the novels and short stories of Rosamunde Pilcher. Here the protagonists go shopping and strolling. The train station is another location that is often used for filming arrivals and departures, for instance in “The Empty House”.
Tthe first film “The Day of the Storm” used the harbour of Penzance and the town was also used for “Voices in Summer”, “Another View” and “Coming Home”. In “Blossoms of Life” Penzance masquerades as Kensington. The production “Magic Night” filmed in the pub The Admiral Benbow in Chapel Street. They used the bar upstairs and the crew had one or two drinks here after work. Admiral Benbow also features in the opening scene of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island. In the same street you will find the Egyptian House which has been changed into a shop, and Tony Sanders Antiques Shop which was also used in filming. The Methodist Church hosted the piano concert of “Amazing Grace” that was supposed to have taken place in London.
St Michael’s Mount was used for filming “Voices in Summer” and “Coming Home”. The surgery of Dr Jeremy Wells is set in Marazion. The outside of the castle St Michael’s Mount features in “Magic Night”.
